The New in America book series are based on the following learning principles: Relationships, Culture, Com- prehension, Communication and Proficiency. The books integrate learning English with life skills in a new culture. There are three levels with an A and B book for each level. Each book include QR-codes with video recordings and a teacher’s guide. Flashcards from each chapter can be ordered in pdf-format to be printed. Training in how to effectively use the curriculum can be provided upon request.

New in America Level 1
Level 1 focuses on building vocabulary about daily topics and learning to use the words in sentences. Each chapter features a specific topic about daily life. A large number of vocabulary are effectively learned through comprehension and physical response using pictures. Video recordings of the vocabulary exercises are includ- ed for reinforcement outside of class. The vocabulary and grammar are used in substitution dialogues where students practice while interacting with the teacher and their classmates. There are written assignments that can be used for homework. Each chapter has a story of people from different countries as they settle in America. The stories use the topic, vocabulary and grammar taught in the chapter and in previous chapters. Students are encouraged to listen to comprehensible language input.
About the Author
Tone Hess worked with Ethnos360 for 20 years church planting and training cross-cultural students in discipleship and in culture and language acquisition in three different countries. Since 2016 she has helped resettle immigrants and has taught ESL in Harrisburg, PA. She provides training and assistance to ESL programs.
